Sorting Clothes – Proven Method

Why do we need to sort clothes?

Have you ever asked yourself why do we sort clothes before washing? Is it really necessary? Where do you even start?

While there might be several different ways of sorting your laundry, we at Soak N Relax Laundry Shop are using the proven method of sorting the clothes by color and fabric. This allows us to use various cycle types during the washing, depending on the fabric type and it also prevents the dreaded “bleeding” of colors.

Color Sorting

You can start by sorting the clothes by color and separate them into light, dark, white, delicate and jeans. Light colored clothes are pastel type, like light blue, light green, lavender, pink and yellow.

Dark colored clothes are black, navy blue, gray, red and purple. Whites are your typical white socks, underwear, t-shirts and other similar clothes. Delicate clothes include silk, lingerie, panties and other garment that need to be washed with extra care.

Fabric Weight Sorting

When selecting clothes by fabric, consider the weight of garments. You don’t want to wash heavy cotton pants with light fabric, t-shirts for example, because heavy fabric can tear thin clothes during the agitation cycle of the washer.

This further applies to the drying cycle as well, because it will take a lot longer for thicker items to dry. Separating these garment types from the beginning of cycle will improve time and efficiency of your washing from start to end.

Final Thoughts

Don’t worry, sorting clothes is not as difficult as it may seem. You can create your own sorting routine and begin by using separate baskets for different fabric types.

If space is an issue, you can still use the “one big basket” method and sort your clothes before you wash them. Having in mind that different people use different approach, whether it’s because of personal preferences or habits.

If you are a busy, working individual or a family, Soak N Relax Laundry Shop is available to you 7 days a week. You can visit our store and we’ll make sure to take care of your garments with the utmost care.
